The NRF has been specifically designed to be consistent with jurisdictional requirements, including Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation, and existing guidance. To this end, the NRF is not prescriptive.

It is therefore important that practitioners are familiar with local regulations and note that the NRF does not supersede regulatory requirements. Familiarity with local legislation and regulations is necessary before proceeding with environmental remediation and management. Each jurisdiction has guidelines that assist in meeting requirements. See the table below for names and web addresses of Commonwealth, State and Territory government agencies.
